Let's Demystify Fibromyalgia

This 2 day course is valuable for all health care providers working with people with Fibromyalgia.  It is offered as an alternative to our online webinar under the same topic.

The goal is for this course to be clinically relevant and immediately applicable.
A case study will be reviewed throughout the course.

Course Objectives:
  1. To briefly review the science of central sensitization and the biopsychosocial model of pain.
  2. To increase the understanding of the complexities of fibromyalgia, including the clinical presentation and the underlying pathogenesis.
  3. To understand the physiology of sleep and review the processes that regulate sleep.
  4. To review three international guidelines for the assessment and management of fibromyalgia:  The Canadian 2012 Guidelines, the updated 2010 American College of Rheumatology Guidelines, and the 2017 European League Against Rheumatism Guidelines.
  5. To increase competency in a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment for patients with fibromyalgia, including sleep assessment.
  6. To examine the scope of treatment for fibromyalgia, including pharmaceutical and complementary and alternative medicine in light of recent research.
  7. To examine specific physiotherapy treatment options in the biopsychosocial model of pain for fibromyalgia, based on international guidelines and recent research.  This includes treatment for sleep problems.
  8. To review basic concepts of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the rationale for the use of this clinical tool in physiotherapy treatment..
